Two minutes. Who you are, and how this works.

Welcome back.

How this works. You go chapter by chapter. Each chapter is one part of your plant. Most questions are answered by tapping a button. Where we ask you to type, keep it short.

It saves by itself — every tap, every letter. Close it, switch off, come back tomorrow. It opens where you stopped.

Nothing here is a test. If you don’t know, tap Not sure. If it doesn’t apply to you, tap Not applicable. Both are real answers.
Your plant has run for ten years. So we are not asking you to invent anything. Tell us what happens today. Only where you want something different, tell us the new way.

Chapter 2 of 14

A day in the plant

Walk us through one normal day, from unlocking the gate to locking it.

—answered in this chapter
This is the most important chapter. Each box below is one part of the day, drawn as steps 1, 2, 3… On the left is our guess at how it happens today — correct it. Change the words, add a step, remove a step, move one up or down. On the right, only if you want something to be different in future, describe the new way.
On every step there are three small buttons: By hand, Part machine, Machine does it. Please tap one. It tells us whether a person has to type a number in, or the machine already knows it.

The morning — opening, and who gives the orders

Every day starts with somebody deciding what to make. We need to know who, and how the others find out.

Todayhow it happens now — our guess, correct it
New wayonly if you want a change

What time does the morning start?

    Who opens the plant?

Who decides what to make today?

How is the plan handed over?

Does the line wait for the first water test?

Material from the store to the line

Bottles, caps and stickers leave the store and go to the line. If nobody writes it down, no stock number can be trusted afterwards.

Todayhow it happens now — our guess, correct it
New wayonly if you want a change

Who takes material out of the store?

Is the quantity written down when it leaves?

      Written where?

Can you tell which supplier’s caps went into a batch?

This is what makes a recall possible.

      Running the line

The order of these steps decides what a half-finished batch looks like when the line stops.

Todayhow it happens now — our guess, correct it
New wayonly if you want a change

Is the sticker put on before filling, or after?

Where is the batch number printed?

        Who checks bottles for faults?

Is every bottle looked at, or a few?

Is water tested again during the day?

Counting what was made, at the end of the day

Who counts, and how. By piece, by case or by weight changes what the app asks someone to type.

Todayhow it happens now — our guess, correct it
New wayonly if you want a change

Who counts at the end of the day?

          How is the count done?

Does a second person check it?

          What time is the count?

Does the store count again when it receives?

Packing and putting into the store

A bottle becomes stock at one particular moment. We must use the same moment, or the stock number is always one step out.

Todayhow it happens now — our guess, correct it
New wayonly if you want a change

Bottles in one case, per size

            For example: 300 ml — 24, 500 ml — 24, 1 L — 12

When does a bottle become stock?

Are different batches mixed in one stack?

Goods going out, and the expiry check

This is where a mistake reaches a customer.

Todayhow it happens now — our guess, correct it
New wayonly if you want a change

              Who takes the goods away?

Is the oldest stock sent first?

Who checks the dates before loading?

              How?

Days before best-before you will still send it

Below this the app can stop it being loaded.

              When does stock come down?

How are empty cans counted back?

At the customer’s end, is anything signed or photographed?

Closing the day, and the stock balance

The block that keeps every other number honest.

Todayhow it happens now — our guess, correct it
New wayonly if you want a change

                Who counts the closing stock?

Is the day balanced — opening + made − sent − damaged = closing?

If it does not match, what happens?

                Who signs the day off?

Is the end-of-day cleaning written down?

                Your machines

One row per machine. The important question: does it count by itself?

                Machines

Blowing, rinsing, filling, capping, printing, sticker, shrink wrap, can washing, can filling, RO.

MachineWhat it doesCounts by itself? (yes / no)

Is any new machine being bought or planned?

If a counting machine is coming, we build for it now.

                When an order comes in

A phone call, a walk-in, an agency, a weekly customer, and when the stock is not there.

For each screen: tap Keep, Change, Not applicable or Drop. If Change, say what. And name one person who will check that screen is right — “the team” is not a name.
